How Much Does a Custom Website Cost?

What actually drives website pricing — from focused marketing sites to custom e-commerce — and how to tell whether a quote is an investment or a liability.

What actually drives website pricing — from focused marketing sites to custom e-commerce — and how to tell whether a quote is an investment or a liability.

There’s no single price for a website, and anyone who quotes one before understanding your business is guessing. What we can do is explain what moves the number — so you can read any proposal, ours included, with clear eyes.

What you’re actually paying for

A website’s cost tracks its scope, not its page count. The real drivers are:

  • Custom design vs. template. A distinctive, on-brand design costs more than a themed template — and is worth it when your brand is a differentiator.
  • Functionality. A brochure site, a content platform with a CMS, and a custom e-commerce build with payments and inventory are three very different engineering efforts.
  • Integrations. CRMs, booking systems, ERPs, and marketing tools each add scope.
  • Content. Copywriting, photography, and migration of existing content are real work, not afterthoughts.
  • Performance and SEO. Building for Core Web Vitals, accessibility, and search from day one takes deliberate effort — and pays back every month afterward.

Rough tiers

While every project is scoped individually, most work falls into a few bands:

  • Focused marketing site — a fast, well-built site to establish credibility and capture leads.
  • Content-driven platform — CMS, editorial system, and a structure engineered to rank.
  • Custom e-commerce — storefront, checkout, integrations, and the performance to convert.

The gap between the low and high end of any tier usually comes down to design customization and integration complexity.

Cheap sites are expensive

Pretty isn’t a KPI — and neither is cheap. A bargain site that loads slowly, can’t be found in search, and doesn’t convert costs you every single day it’s live, in traffic you never earned and customers you never closed. Your website should work harder than your sales deck. Priced against the revenue it’s supposed to generate, “expensive” and “cheap” often trade places.

How we scope it

We quote transparently after a short discovery call: we map your goals, define what success looks like in numbers, and send a fixed proposal before any work begins. No surprise invoices, no scope creep dressed up as “extras.”
